Investing in Our Teachers

Tulsa is a proud, thoughtful, creative community with a first rate high school. At Booker T. Washington High School, excellence is the standard for all students. Students from every racial, ethnic, religious, and socio-economic background in Tulsa are prepared and empowered for leadership in this community and in their personal lives. With a 100% graduation rate and countless high achieving students, the program’s success is undeniable. BTW’s teachers are the backbone of this success!

Tragically, this proven program’s survival is threatened by massive budget cuts. The impact on Booker T. is especially high — Booker T. announced the reduction of more than 10 educator positions in the 2016/2017 academic year. To address this drastic reduction in teaching positions, the Foundation created its Investing in Our Teachers initiative. The Foundation provided funding for three teaching positions in the core subjects of math, science, and social studies, and one language teacher for this school year, with the hope to extend that support for another year.

Investment in teaching positions will help ensure that BTW continues to be a beacon of success, by delivering students with well-developed analytical skills, benefiting the city of Tulsa and the state of Oklahoma. The rewards that every Tulsan enjoys as a result of having a high performing school must not be diminished.
